Whalehaven Winery recently visited the UK as their prestigious Terroir Series became available across Amathus Drinks stores. Established in 1978, Amathus is a renowned family-owned drinks importer, distributor, and specialist retailer with locations in London’s most dynamic districts.

Whalehaven is delighted to announce its remarkable success at the prestigious International Wine Challenge (IWC), where its 2023 Whalehaven Seascape Chardonnay secured an exceptional 96 points and a gold medal, securing the podium as the highest scoring wine from South Africa at this esteemed competition and the Hemel-en-Aarde Trophy.

These remarkable wines, crafted from the third oldest producer in the Hemel-en-Aarde region, showcase the unique terroir and ocean-influenced climate that contribute to their exceptional quality

In the May 2000 issue of Wine magazine, the late Tony Mossop CWM reporting on that year’s panel tasting of Pinot Noir, wrote: “The perfect [example] is not easy to find… particularly in South Africa it seems”.

Best wine overall in that tasting was Whalehaven 1998 with a rating of 3½ Stars.

Hermanus wine producer, Whalehaven, created a limited edition label – aptly named “Special Release” – consisting of 500 bottles of Viognier-Chardonnay and 500 bottles of a merlot-dominated Cape Blend for the occasion. The commemorative wine label with a Southern Right whale breaching was painted by artist Emese Kazar.
